PAXS – Interview: Daniel Smith and Joe Lambert
Daniel Smith and Joe Lambert from University of Southampton talks about PAXS.
What is PAXS?PAXS is a plug-in that allows people to have a richer search experience when searching Eprints. What problems/issues is PAXS tackling? In existing Eprints if you search you don’t necessarily get the results you need, even if the information is there. PAXS makes searching quicker and more accurate. Also the advances search is currently quite hard for people to use. We’ve implemented the Apples Rules list to make it easier for the users. How would you like other software developers and users to get involved in what you are doing? It’s going to be an open-source plug-in, and people can currently use it, even though it’s not in its finished state. We really need the administrators to get involved and make tit available for the end users. What developer communities have you been involved in and if none, why not?The Eprints community, JISC, the SPHINX community. What is the coolest or most exciting thing in educational software development? There’s lots of stuff that we’d like to be doing! One thing we’re already working on is MSpace – an alternative visualisation of the deposits which allows users to get at data in different ways.
