We propose a tool (API) to assist in both those aims.journalTOCS-API intends to help IR managers by a) providing IRs with a facility (API) to identify and inform IR Managers about articles that have been published by their academics, and b) to alert IR managers when items submitted to IRs are subsequently published elsewhere, in scholarly journals. We have started talking to:- BioMed Central- CrossRef (ticTOCS)- BiblioSight News- Bayesian Feed Filter

journalTOCS-API – Interview: Santy Chumbe http://devcsi.ukoln.ac.uk/2009/09/05/journaltocs-api-interview-santy-chumbe/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=journaltocs-api-interview-santy-chumbe http://devcsi.ukoln.ac.uk/2009/09/05/journaltocs-api-interview-santy-chumbe/#comments Sat, 05 Sep 2009 12:40:25 +0000 michelle-pauli http://devcsi.ukoln.ac.uk/demonstrator/?p=321 Santy Chumbe, project manager of journalTOCS-API, based at Heriot-Watt explains how the project will benefit repository managersWhat is journalTOCS-API?Repository managers who want to discover new content can try journalTOCS-API – it is free, easy to use, friendly and, we believe, very useful for repository managers. It helps them to discover new content and enhance their metadata. What problems/issues is journalTOCS-API tackling?Repository managers are always trying to populate their repositories. For some reason academics do not want to put their stuff in or are unable to so, so this helps to enhance the repositories. How would you like other software developers and users to get involved in what you are doing? It is very important to get the users involved. We need users. We’re working hard to get more users involved to try it out. What developer communities have you been involved in and if none, why not?Mainly my ex-colleagues from past JISC projects – my private community! Also SourceForge. What is the coolest or most exciting thing in educational software development?Open ID and open standards  so you do not need to create lots of user names and passwords. The freedom to have just one user identification.
