PRICE – Interview: Chris Roast http://devcsi.ukoln.ac.uk/2009/09/04/interview-chris-roast-price-project/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=interview-chris-roast-price-project http://devcsi.ukoln.ac.uk/2009/09/04/interview-chris-roast-price-project/#comments Fri, 04 Sep 2009 11:59:29 +0000 kirsty-pitkin http://devcsi.ukoln.ac.uk/demonstrator/?p=188

Chris Roast is based at Sheffield Hallam University and is currently working on the Opening Up Research Exploration with Better Views project…

What is PRICE?

Public Research Information and its Critical Exploration (PRICE) is an application to build associations between diverse, authoritative sources, linking public accounts of research to their scientific accounts.

What problems/issues is PRICE tackling?

Its not funded!  At the moment it I am trying to organise the institutional contribution needed in a JISC funding bid and to find clarity on what that contribution should be.

There are philosophical issues connected with this as it is not a tool that “fixes” something.

How would you like other software developers and users to get involved in what you are doing?

The ideal would be a set of analysis tools, which was sufficiently open to enable contributions.  We would also need access to a whole load of repositories, so we need to look at practically how we can do that.

What developer communities have you been involved in and if none, why not?

I have been involved in the local geek community in Sheffield.

What is the coolest or most exciting thing in educational software development?

The ease by which people can do mashups now.
