A one / three day event for librarians and developers to examine and produce innovative mobile solutions for libraries.

If you work in a library, or are a software developer who works with librarians and have great ideas about how mobile technologies could be used in libraries, this event is for you! This unique event hopes to bring together librarians and developers to work together, share expertise, discuss issues, and experiment in a focussed way on prototyping systems for libraries.
Programme
Mobile Imaginations Workshop – Monday 24th* – Wednesday 26th, September, 2012
(Cost £75* for Monday Workshop) (9am – 4pm with the drinks reception starting at 7pm for those booked for whole conference)
The Mobile Imaginations workshop is an opportunity to collaborate with other librarians and developers to come up with transformative new ideas for mobile technology in libraries. No technical knowledge is required, simply lots of ideas and innovative approaches.
The Monday workshop will provide a space for collaboratively brainstorming new ideas in small groups and developing some initial designs. There will also be a number of short ‘drop-in’ sessions on topics including paper prototyping, user interface design and perfecting your pitch.
Ideas can then be refined and prototyped throughout the rest of the conference on Tuesday and Wednesday in the parallel sessions, ‘Imaginations Strand – Strand A‘
Objectives:
- To explore and come up with ideas for new services, technologies, apps.
- To design products or services
- To plan prototypes or paper prototypes to be developed throughout the conference and presented in the final session

This workshop can be seen as a “stand alone” workshop at a cost of £75. However, if you wish to continue your work throughout the rest of the conference on Tuesday and Wednesday you will need to register as a conference delegate at a cost of £450. If you want to book for the whole conference, which includes the Mobile Imaginations Workshop on Monday, it will cost £450 . This also does not include accommodation, see registration for further details.
Day One of Mobile Imaginations Workshop
Monday 24th September (Pre Conference)
The Mobile Imaginations workshop will provide a space for librarians and library technologists to collaboratively brainstorm new ideas in small groups and develop some initial designs for new mobile services, technologies or apps.

Ben and Mahendra will outline the rationale for this workshop and explain what we require from the delegates.
10:15 Opening Presentation - From Minds to mobile: Learning on the go!
Mr Tony Tin (Athabasca University, Canada)
This overview of Athabasca University’s involvement with mobile learning starting in 2007 will provide inspiration for the day’s workshop. Tony will touch on technology in mobile learning including: mobile content development, Drupal, and 3D for mobile devices, as well as various mobile research projects including the AU Mobile Wellness App and E-Readers and seniors.

Delegates will have a chance to join small groups around specific areas (e.g. QR codes, gaming, AR, geo). The aim will be to enable people to start talking about ideas, join into small (or large) groups and begin developing specific ideas.

13:00 Library UX – where it is , where it is going?
An explanation and discussion of Library UX and the main points of a report written for the UK, Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL)

14:15 How to go about Interactive System Design
In this session the basic principles of paper based agile techniques for software development will be explained and how it can be applied to the ideas that the delegates are developing.
Led by Mark van Harmelen.
14:30 Participant suggestions for an example to paper prototype (please think a bit about this before the workshop if you can).
Drawing on experience, Mark will then choose an aspect of an example that may be prototyped in the last forty minutes of the workshop.

13:00 Final Practice of Pitches and Feedback

14:15 The group decide on the two best pitches and ideas who will then pitch again to the entire audience at 3pm.

Led Ben Showers and Mahendra Mahey will give an overview of all the ideas developed at the workshop
The two chosen ideas will then pitch to the entire audience!
The audience must decide their favourite idea!
